With first Virginia Tech game upcoming, how many Power 5 teams have yet to play Arkansas?

Arkansas' mascot and cheerleaders lead the team onto the field prior to a game against Missouri on Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, in Columbia, Mo.

— Arkansas' game against Virginia Tech in the Belk Bowl will be the first meeting between the Razorbacks and Hokies.

The last time Arkansas had a first-time matchup against a power conference program was in January 2011 when it played Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl. (The Razorbacks played Rutgers in the 2012 and 2013 seasons, but that was before the Scarlet Knights were in the Big Ten).

The rarity of playing a new power opponent got us thinking: how many Power 5 opponents has Arkansas yet to play in its football history? The answer is 23, excluding Virginia Tech.

Here are the teams, by conference, never to play the Razorbacks:

-ACC (9): Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia, Wake Forest

-Big Ten (6): Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan State, Penn State, Purdue

-Big 12 (1): West Virginia

-Pac-12 (7): Arizona, Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State, Utah, Washington, Washington State

That means Virginia Tech will be the 40th different team from a Power 5 conference to play Arkansas. Of those 40, 18 have been conference opponents of the Razorbacks' either in the SEC or the former Southwest Conference.

Of the remaining 22, Arkansas has played nine - Duke, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, UCLA and now Virginia Tech - only in a bowl game.

The Razorbacks' longest amount of time between games played is against Iowa (91 years) and Kansas (110 years).
