Arkansa DT target Javier Edwards plans Sunday announcement

— Arkansas’ football program may know by Sunday if it will land a huge piece for the middle of its defense for next season.

Blinn, Texas, College defensive tackle Javier Edwards (6-3, 350) said late Friday afternoon that his current plan was to go public with his choice on Sunday.

“That’s what I am thinking right now,” noted Edwards, a Houston, Texas native.

Edwards said that he is down to three schools, but missing from that group is Florida, a school has was committed to earlier, and Missouri, where he had been scheduled to visit this weekend.

“It’s Arkansas, Colorado and UNLV,” Edwards said. “Florida is not in it anymore. I’m just down to those three. I have taken (official) visits to all three schools.”

Razorback head coach Bret Bielema and secondary coach Paul Rhoads - who Edwards had planned to sign with at Iowa State out of high school - had a home visit with the prospect on Wednesday night.

“It went great,” Edwards said. “They just let me know how much they really wanted me to play for them and how much they need me.”

Edwards, who had 24 tackles and two sacks this season, took his official visit to Arkansas on Dec. 2-4 and pronounced the Razorbacks as his leader just afterwards.

He stated there were several reasons for that, including the distance from Houston.

“That’s a big factor because, first of all, I’m in the SEC West,” Edwards said. “You can’t beat that. For my family, the farthest drive they’d have to make is about eight, eight and-a-half hours. My uncle loves driving. That’d be a cake walk.”
