HOUSTON -- Daryl Macon credited teammate Dusty Hannahs with helping him hit 14 of 14 free throws as the Razorbacks beat Texas 77-74 on Saturday.

Hannahs came into the game shooting a team-leading 92.9 percent from the foul line (39 of 42) with Macon second at 84.6 percent (22 of 26).

"You want to know what encouraged me today?" Macon said. "I think it was the other day at practice when Dusty was telling us, 'Y'all are 80 percent free-throw shooters. I'm 90.

"He was like, 'Tell me when you get to 90?' So I'm like, 'I can't miss anymore free throws.' He's challenging me. I've got to go up there and be 100 percent every game from the free-throw line."

Macon, a junior from Little Rock, is at 90 percent (36 of 40) after Saturday's performance. He said the 14 free throws were the most he's hit in a game without a miss.

Hannahs said he didn't realize Macon was 14 of 14 until after the game.

"I knew he was attacking and getting to the line a lot," Hannahs said. "But I mean, 14 for 14? That's crazy."

Macon was 4 of 12 from the field, including 1 of 5 on three-pointers, but kept drawing fouls on drives to the basket.

"He's a crafty guard," Texas sophomore Andrew Jones said. "Staying in front of him was a challenge. He went to the hole aggressively and knocked his free throws down."

Macon finished with a career-high 23 points.

"He did a great job getting to the foul line, then he was automatic," Texas Coach Shaka Smart said. "He got by our guys and got in the lane quite a bit."

Macon matched the second-highest free-throw total by a Razorback in a game without a miss. Tommy Boyer holds the record, going 18 of 18 against Texas Tech in 1963.

Macon, Scott Hastings and Kareem Reid have all hit 14 of 14. Hastings did it against Rice in 1982 and Reid did it against Memphis in 1998.

"I have to give a big shout-out to my teammates," Macon said. "I didn't score 23 points on my own."

Hannahs had his streak of made free throws end at 26 when he missed with the first of two attempts with 6:21 left. He made the second and finished 2 of 3 from the line.

For the season, Hannahs has hit 41 of 45 free throws.

Good Cook

Forward Arlando Cook was big off the bench for the Razorbacks with starter Dustin Thomas struggling.

Thomas was held scoreless for the first time this season, but Cook scored six points -- all in the last 4:29 when he hit a layup and 4 of 4 free throws.

Cook's basket put Arkansas ahead for good, 63-61.

"I thought one of the unsung heroes was Arlando Cook," Arkansas Coach Mike Anderson said. "He fixed things on defense and then he made four big-time free throws."

Dusty's defense

Arkansas guard Dusty Hannahs is known for his scoring rather than defense, but he made two steals Saturday, including deflecting a pass by Kerwin Roach and converting it into a layup that put the Razorbacks ahead 65-61 with 3:59 left.

Texas Coach Shaka Smart said Roach picked up his dribble and didn't make a good pass.

"Yeah, he kind of gave it to him," Longhorns guard Tevin Mack said as he sat next to Smart in the postgame interview room.

"They were just more aggressive on that play than we were," Smart said. "And [Hannahs] did a good job forcing a steal."

Vs. Texas

Arkansas improved to 87-67 all-time against Texas, including 6-1 in Houston.

Razorbacks Coach Mike Anderson is 4-2 against the Longhorns. He went 3-2 against Texas as Missouri's coach.

Houston happiness

Arkansas' football, basketball and baseball teams are a combined 5-0 in Houston against former Southwest Conference rivals since January 2015.

The Razorbacks beat Texas 31-7 in the Texas Bowl in NRG Stadium to cap the 2014 season and beat Rice 5-2, Houston 9-3 and Texas Tech 10-6 in Minute Maid Park during last baseball season before Saturday's victory over Texas.

Early graduation

Playing Texas caused Dusty Hannahs to miss Arkansas' graduation Saturday in Fayetteville, but his coaches and teammates surprised him with a ceremony at the team's practice facility Thursday.

Hannahs has completed a degree in recreation and sports management.

"I thought it was pretty neat that he had a little ceremony right there in front of his teammates," Arkansas Coach Mike Anderson said. "It's a great statement to our guys.

"That's why we did that. This is what you're trying to achieve, and our guys celebrated to him. So kudos to Dusty Hannahs."

Smallish crowd

The combined announced attendance for Saturday's doubleheader -- with Arkansas playing Texas after Arizona beat Texas A&M 67-63 -- was 8,777.

Streak continues

Dusty Hannahs hit a three-point basket with 8:23 left in the first half to extend the Razorbacks' streak with at least one three-pointer to 916 games.

The Razorbacks went 4 of 16 from three-point range against Texas.

Earler this season at Minnesota, Hannahs hit a three-pointer with four minutes left to make sure the streak stayed alive as Arkansas finished 1 of 8 from beyond the arc.

The last time the Razorbacks' didn't hit a three-pointer was Jan. 7, 1989, at Texas, but Arkansas won 99-92. The Razorbacks attempted two three-pointers with Lee Mayberry and Cannon Whitby missing.
