Ellenwood selected in NWSL Draft

Arkansas' Ashleigh Ellenwood collides with a University of Missouri-Kansas City player Sunday Sept. 13, 2015. Ellenwood was injured on the play and was removed from the game.

Ashleigh Ellenwood became the first player in UA history to be selected in the NWSL Draft Friday.

The former Arkansas star was taken in the fourth round, 39th overall, by the Chicago Red Stars, one of 10 teams in the National Women's Soccer League.

Ellenwood was the next-to-last pick in the league's fourth annual college draft.

Despite suffering a season-ending injury in Arkansas' seventh game last season, Ellenwood finished her career with 30 goals, 23 assists and 83 points, which rank fourth, second and third, respectively, in UA history.

She was named to the SEC all-freshman team in 2012 and was a second-team all-SEC selection in 2013, when she led Arkansas to the Sweet 16 with a UA single-season record six game-winning goals.

The Razorbacks are the 10th SEC team to have a player taken since the league's first draft in 2013. Florida leads the conference with six selections.
