Jones and mother surprised by Arkansas

Brandon Jones

Safety Brandon Jones said he and his mother were surprised by what they saw during this weekend's official visit to Arkansas.

He said the facilities surprised him along with the new academic center. He said if an athlete fails as a student-athlete at Arkansas then it's his own fault. He was very impressed by the academic support system.

Jones, 6-0, 195, 4.4 of Nacogdoches, Texas has also visited Texas, Texas A&M and Ole Miss. He has a visit set for Baylor next weekend and may take a visit to TCU during the week, but in-home visits may prevent that.

He said he's very big on an environment of a school and he said he had a home feeling while in Fayetteville.

His host was cornerback D.J. Dean. Jones said the two hit it off right off the bat because the two are from East Texas.

He said the highlight of the trip was seeing the weight room and talking to strength and conditioning coach Ben Herbert and seeing some before and after pictures of the players.

Jones, who is ESPN's No. 1 safety in the nation, plans to announce his decision on signing day.
