Hogs to begin Senior Bowl practice

Arkansas quarterback Brandon Allen attempts a pass during the first quarter on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn.

— Three Arkansas Razorbacks will be part of the South squad when Senior Bowl practices start today in Mobile, Ala.

Quarterback Brandon Allen, offensive guard Sebastian Tretola and running back Jonathan Williams all received invitations to the game, which will be played on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Ladd-Peebles Stadium and broadcast on the NFL Network.

Williams, who missed the entire 2015 season after rushing for 1,190 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2014, had the screws removed from his left foot on Dec. 1.

Allen was listed Monday by the NFL Network analyst Bucky Brooks as one of the 10 players with the most to prove at the Senior Bowl.

Wrote Brooks, “The Arkansas standout has piqued the interest of scouts looking for a sleeper at the position. Allen thrived as a pocket passer in Arkansas’ traditional system, but coaches will closely monitor how well he adapts to running a pro-style scheme surrounded by elite playmakers.”

Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema speculated last week that the Razorbacks could upgrade at two of the three positions on the offensive line where they are losing starters, and Tretola’s left guard spot is the one that will be hardest to replace.
