The Recruiting Guy

Top safety likely to officially visit Hogs

Highly recruited safety Todd Haris.

— Arkansas has several prospects taking part at The Opening, the premier event for the nation's top recruits at Nike headquarters, including safety target Todd Harris.

Harris, 6-0, 183, 4.46, of Plaquemine (La.) High School has scholarship offers from schools across the nation like Arkansas, LSU, Michigan, Miami, Georgia, Tennessee and numerous others. He and his parents visited the Razorbacks for the spring game.

Hog receivers coach Michael Smith has Harris thinking of the Hogs.

“I’m keeping them in mind, I have to get back up there Coach Smith, great coaching staff, great team, great little city,” Harris said. “It was just amazing went down in the spring when I checked out the game. I enjoyed my time.”

ESPN rates Harris the No. 8 safety and No. 87 overall prospect in the nation. The visit to Fayetteville allowed him an opportunity to experience something different.

“That’s the only school I’ve actually been to and really interacted with the players, so that’s a plus for Arkansas,” Harris said. “I’m probably going to end up taking an official visit there. My parents also enjoyed themselves at Arkansas.”

Harris, who mentioned Miami as another official visit destination, was impressed with the Razorback players, including ones from his home state.

“All of them were down-to-earth,” Harris said. “They were real cool. They weren’t all stuck up and stuff. Exactly like the guys at the Boot like Jared Cornelius. We talked it up a little bit. The guys from the Boot are showing love to us.”

Receivers coach Michael Smith has told Harris why Arkansas would be a good fit for him.

“He texts me and keeps up with me, he keeps me updated on everything and making sure I’m doing good and all that,” Harris said. “He’s trying to get me back to Arkansas and he shows me how special Arkansas is and what the school can do for you after you graduate. It’s a great school to get your degree from.”
