Arkansas sophomore quarterback Rafe Peavey underwent back surgery Wednesday after sustaining an injury in summer workouts, but is expected to be back by the time fall camp gets underway Aug. 4.

Peavey ended the spring as Austin Allen’s backup and will compete to keep his spot ahead of Ty Storey, Ricky Town and true freshman Cole Kelley.

“Unfortunately Rafe suffered a minor back injury during routine summer workouts,” coach Bret Bielema said in a statement. “He underwent successful surgery on Wednesday and is on the path to recovery so he can return to the field for fall camp. I’m confident Rafe will make a full recovery and will build on his strong spring during fall camp.”
