Monday recruiting tidbits

Arkansas Coach Mike Anderson is hoping a 10-day exhibition tour through Spain in August will give the Razorbacks a competitive edge once the 2016-2017 season kicks off in November.

A former player for Arkansas Coach Mike Anderson is the uncle of one of the Hogs' top prospects.

Power forward Garrison Brooks, who received an offer from Arkansas on July 10, is the nephew of Mo Finley, who played for Anderson at UAB in 1999-2004.

Finley, who is the brother of Brooks' mother, hit the winning shot against No. 1 rated Kentucky in the 2004 NCAA playoffs.

Brooks, 6-9, 215 pounds of Lafayette, (Ala) Auburn has other offers from Alabama, Texas A&M, Auburn, Georgia, Mississippi State, Florida State and others. His father George Brooks is an assistant coach at Mississippi State.

He said he plans to visit Fayetteville in August.

Anderson and associate head coach Melvin Watkins were on hand to watch the 16-under Arkansas Hawks defeat the Colorado Hawks 74-70 to win the Adidas Three Stripes tournament in St. Louis on Sunday.

2019 Razorback point guard commitment Justice Hill had 16 points, 2018 forward Reggie Perry had 15 points, 12 rebounds and 2018 forward Ethan Henderson contributed 13 points, 10 rebounds and 7 blocks.

2018 guard Desi Sills had 13 points while 2018 guard Isaiah Joe had a crucial three-pointer, 2 free throws and a big steal in the final minute of the game. The Arkansas Hawks were down by five points with 1:12 remaining in the game.

Junior college defensive end Michael Taylor will arrive in Fayetteville at 3:15 Tuesday afternoon for an official visit. He originally planned to arrive on Wednesday.

Taylor, 6-3, 248, 4.6, of Riverside City College in California has about nine scholarship offers from schools like Utah State, Colorado, Massachusetts, New Mexico and Wyoming. He also is drawing interest from UCLA and Southern Cal.

Highly regarded junior cornerback Kalon Gervin of Detroit Cass Technical said he's communicating with offensive coordinator Dan Enos and defensive backs coach Paul Rhoads and is considering a visit to Fayetteville for a game.

He said his teammate and safety Jaylen Kelly-Powell, 6-0, 180 told him very good things about Arkansas. Gervin has offers from Arkansas, Michigan, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Tennessee and several others.
