Hogs get pledge from Texas pitcher

Arkansas picked up its fourth baseball commit in the past week Sunday night when College Station, Texas, pitcher Travis Hester pledged to the Razorbacks.

Hester, a 6-foot-2 right-hander, is Arkansas’ 10th commitment in the 2018 class. Last week, the Razorbacks secured commits from two 2018 prospects — right-handed pitcher Connor Noland and infielder Zack Gregory — along with 2019 outfielder Bryson Kemp, a Texas native like Hester.

Hester was 10-2 with a 1.97 ERA as a sophomore for the College Station Cougars, earning first-team all-district and second-team all-state honors. He was the District 18-5A Newcomer of the Year in 2015 and also plays the outfield.

He was clocked at 83 miles per hour in July of 2015, which put him in the 89th percentile for class of 2018 prospects at the time. He was also drawing interest from several home-state schools, including Texas, TCU, Texas Tech and Texas State.
