Hog commit says Arkansas is a hidden gem

Korey Hernandez

Arkansas cornerback commitment Korey Herandez saw his future home for the first time when he visited the Hogs on Tuesday and he plans to tell other prospects about the Razorbacks.

“Arkansas is a hidden gem,” Herandez said. “They better get a spot when they can.”

He pledged to the Razorbacks on June 24 without a visit.

“It’s way better than what they say it is,” Hernandez said. “The indoor facially, the fields; I was impressed and the weight room and even like the player’s lounge. The movie theater in the player’s lounge is amazing.”

Hernandez, 5-11, 175, 4.5 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Ellenwood, (Ga.) Cedar Grove chose the Hogs over about 20 scholarship offers from schools like Maryland, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, South Florida, Southern Miss, Tulane, Kent State, Toledo and others.

He spent time with the Arkansas coaches, including defensive backs coach Paul Rhoads.

“Coach Rhoads is a cool dude,” Herandez said. “I knew he was very experienced. We talked about football.”

He plans to return to campus today to meet Coach Bret Bielema, who was out of town.

As a junior, Hernandez recorded a team leading 81 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions, 4 pass breakups, 3 forced fumbles along with more than 250 receiving yards on offense. He hung out with his lead recruiter and defensive line coach Rory Segrest.

“It felt kind of cool just talking to him and getting to know him more,” he said. “ We have a lot in common. He told me somethings that maybe he hadn't told me yet. Nothing major.”
