Brett Eibner traded to Oakland Athletics

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin looks on as Kansas City Royals' Brett Eibner scores on an Alcides Escobar triple Wednesday in Toronto.

Former Arkansas outfielder Brett Eibner has been traded to the Oakland Athletics from the Kansas City Royals.

Eibner was traded for outfielder Billy Burns two days before the MLB trade deadline. He had been optioned to the Royals' Triple-A affiliate in Omaha, Neb., on Friday.

The Royals drafted Eibner in the second round of the 2010 draft. He made his MLB debut earlier this season to much fanfare, recording the game-winning hit in a comeback win over the Chicago White Sox in his second game.

Eibner suffered an injury less than a week after his debut and has spent the year back and forth between Kansas City and Omaha. In 26 MLB games, he is batting .231 with 3 home runs and 10 RBI.
