Report: Arkansas to pay $1.35M for New Mexico State game

Arkansas coach Bret Bielema speaks to reporters on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at Fred W. Smith Center in Fayetteville.

— It appears the going rate for nonconference football games is on the rise.

Arkansas will pay New Mexico State $1.35 million for their Sept. 30, 2017, game in Fayetteville or Little Rock, according to the Las Cruces Sun-News.

New Mexico State is the latest to receive at least $1 million to play the Razorbacks. According to reports, Arkansas paid $1 million for its game against Toledo last season in Little Rock.

Tennessee-Martin, an FCS opponent, was paid $500,000 to play in Fayetteville last October, according to the contract provided through an open records request. The payout for last season's game against UTEP was not reported, but is also believed to be around $1 million.

Arkansas' payout for 2016 games against Louisiana Tech, Texas State and Alcorn State have not been reported.

The Razorbacks do not publicly disclose the amount they pay opponents, citing an exemption in the state's freedom of information act that protects competitive advantages.
