Fayetteville's Clary stands out at Arkansas camp

Fayetteville offensive lineman Ty Clary.

Fayetteville offensive lineman Ty Clary took the ACT test Saturday morning and missed the early part of Arkansas’ prospect camp, but that didn’t stop him from impressing offensive line coach Kurt Anderson.

He received an offer to be a preferred walk-on.

"He said I’m athletic and I would play inside,” Clary said of Anderson. “He said he likes me.”

Clary, 6-4, 280 pounds has scholarship offers from Arkansas State, Missouri State, Coastal Carolina and Air Force along with numerous D-II offers. Razorback offensive lineman Dan Skipper and others roared with approval after his first rep during 1-on-1's.

“I knew I did well right then,” Clary said

He gained a boost of confidence after his performance.

“Just hearing that from that type of caliber of school is really encouraging to me and it makes me feel like I can compete at other schools that are of that size,” Clary said.

He camped at Tulsa on Sunday, and will be at Oklahoma State today.

Clary, who can bench press 225 pounds 17 times, was selected to play on the 45 man Team USA squad that will play four games in China later this month.

“Go to China for free for a month, I couldn’t turn it down,” Clary said.

Clary, who has a 450 pound squat, will need help with the language.

“I hope there’s a translator,” Clary said.

He appreciates the opportunity to be a preferred walk-on at Arkansas, but will likely decline.

“I don’t know if I really want to walk-on at a school while others are offering for a full ride,” he said.
