— Arkansas will reportedly begin a basketball series vs. Houston next season.

CBSSports.com's Jon Rothstein reported the series will begin Dec. 6 with a game at Bud Walton Arena. He did not report when Arkansas would return the game at Houston.

The Razorbacks and Cougars last played in 2011 at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock. The teams became rivals in the 1980s when both were among the top programs in the Southwest Conference.

Arkansas leads the all-time series 21-17. Houston last played in Fayetteville in 1991 - the Razorbacks' final season in the SWC.

The Cougars are coming off a 22-10 season in which they finished third in The American conference, but missed the NCAA Tournament after being upset in their conference tournament opener. The team is coached by former Oklahoma and Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson, and features guard Rob Gray Jr., a junior college transfer who led The American with 16 points per game as a sophomore.

Houston is the fourth reported opponent for Arkansas in the 2016-17 season. The Razorbacks are scheduled to travel to Oklahoma State on Jan. 28 for a game in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.

The Razorbacks will also reportedly play Texas on Dec. 17 in Houston and travel to Minnesota for the start of a home-and-home series. No date has been reported for the Minnesota game.
