Eagan signs with Pirates

Arkansas' Clark Eagan hits a home run during the fifth inning of a game against Texas Tech on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

Clark Eagan has signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates, forgoing his final season of eligibility at Arkansas.

The utility player was drafted in the ninth round with the 285th overall selection of last week's MLB Draft.

He signed for $160,000, according to MLB.com senior writer Jim Callis. That is $2,000 less than that slot's signing bonus value.

During his three-year career with the Razorbacks, Eagan hit .295 with 11 home runs and 80 RBIs. As a senior, he played all over the field, starting games at third base, first base and centerfield.

His signing means only one Arkansas player who was drafted remains undecided on his future: pitcher Dominic Taccolini (Blue Jays, 16th round).

Pitchers Zach Jackson (Blue Jays, third round) and James Teague (Orioles, 37th round) have already announced their intention to sign professionally, while the other two draftees - shortstop Michael Bernal and pitcher Doug Willey - were seniors.

Underclassmen have until July 15 to sign professionally or opt to return to college.
