KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee won't hold classes Sept. 1 due to logistical concerns surrounding the football team's season opener with Appalachian State at Neyland Stadium that night.
School officials announced Tuesday that "this is necessary to accommodate the traffic, parking and security measures that accompany game day." The school announced classes won't be held and that most campus offices will be closed.
Tennessee will add a class day at the end of the semester in order to keep the same number of days in the academic calendar.
Tennessee announced last month that the Appalachian State game had been moved from Sept. 3 to Sept. 1 and would air on SEC Network. This will mark the first time Tennessee has hosted a Thursday football game since 1938.
