Benintendi solid in spring debut

Andrew Benintendi had two hits in his spring training debut with the Boston Red Sox on Friday, March 18, 2016, in Fort Myers, Florida.

Andrew Benintendi looked good in his first big league spring training game with the Boston Red Sox.

The former Arkansas star was called up when Jackie Bradley Jr. was scratched because of arm stiffness and went 2-for-3 with a run scored in Boston's 8-6 loss to the Minnesota Twins in Fort Myers, Florida.

In his first at bat, Benintendi hit a line drive to left for a single. After flying out in his next plate appearance, he ended his day with a line drive to right for another single.

He eventually scored on a home run by Ryan LaMarre.

"He's got a good-looking swing," Red Sox manager John Farrell told the Associated Press. "Even if he doesn't get a couple of basehits, it's still a compact swing."

Benintendi was drafted seventh overall by the Red Sox last summer after winning the Golden Spikes Award as a sophomore at Arkansas.

In his first professional season, he hit .313 with 11 home runs and 31 RBIs in 54 games split between low-A Lowell and single-A Greenville. He also stole 10 bases.
