Outdoor track teams in preseason top 5

Dominique Scott won the 10,000-meter race at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday in Lexington, Ky.

Arkansas' men's and women's outdoor track and field teams are top 5 in the USTFCCCA preseason rankings released Wednesday.

The women are No. 3, while the men are No. 5 in the computer projections.

Both teams are coming off runner-up finishes behind Oregon during the indoor season.

Dominique Scott will bolster Arkansas' women's team, as she did not compete during indoors but will be eligible for outdoors because she redshirted during the 2013 outdoor season.

She finished second in the 5,000m and 10,000m at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Jarrion Lawson leads the men's team, finishing runner-up in the long jump at last year's outdoor championships. He was also a part of the Razorbacks' NCAA champion 4x100m relay team.

Arkansas is one of seven SEC programs - men and women - in the top 11.

On the men's side, the Razorbacks join No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 3 Florida, No. 4 LSU, No. 6 Alabama, No. 10 South Carolina and No. 11 Georgia. Oregon is No. 1.

The women's preseason rankings include No. 1 LSU, No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 6 Georgia, No. 9 Kentucky, No. 10 Florida and No. 11 Mississippi State.
