DeBriyn named SEC legend

Former Arkansas baseball coach Norm DeBriyn is recognized prior to a football game between Arkansas and Missouri on Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.

— Former Arkansas baseball coach Norm DeBriyn has been selected as an SEC Legend and will be honored at the SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover, Ala., later this month.

DeBriyn, now an executive with the Razorback Foundation, led Arkansas to a record of 1,161-650-6 record in 33 seasons and is the 14th winningest coaching in NCAA history. He led the Razorbacks to four College World Series appearances among his 15 NCAA Regional berths and three conference championships.

“It’s been great, the relationships with a lot of people and just seeing people that we played against,” DeBriyn said. “A lot of these legends are people that we played against and it’s great catching up with them.”

DeBriyn is one of four “legends” who will be introduced during the SEC Tournament between May 24-28.

DeBriyn won six Southwest Conference coach of the year horns and one SEC coach of the year award.

“Well deserved,” Arkansas Coach Dave Van Horn said. “He came into the league when the league was already good and jumped in there and competed right away and had a couple of really good years, so it’s a big honor. It’s great for Norm and great for the University of Arkansas.”
