The former Arkansas star hit .341 with 21 extra-base hits and 32 RBIs in 34 games with Boston's high-A affiliate to start the season. He has spent fewer than two months at each level - low-A, single-A and high-A - of the minors so far.

The promotion comes after Benintendi went hitless for just the sixth time this season, as he went 0-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.

During a 23-game hitting streak, which was snapped May 6, Benintendi hit .391 and slugged .663.

While he has only one home run, he has 13 doubles and seven triples. Benintendi also has twice as many free passes (18; 15 walks and 3 hit by pitches) as strikeouts (9) this season.

Including last year, Benintendi has a .324 batting average with 20 doubles, 11 triples, 12 home runs, 62 RBIs, 50 walks, 18 stolen bases and only 33 strikeouts in 88 minor-league games.

Benintendi is the No. 3 prospect in the Red Sox organization, according to MLB.com.
