Matt Reynolds is expected to be called up from triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, according to a report by ESPN.

The former Arkansas standout has been on the New York Mets' active roster before - during last season's NLDS and NLCS - but has not appeared in a big-league game.

In 33 games this season, Reynolds is batting .238 with two home runs and 10 RBIs. While his numbers aren't great this year, he is a career .284 hitter in triple-A.

Reynolds is also desirable because of his defensive versatility. Las Vegas has started him at second base, third base and shortstop.

His promotion is possible because the Mets hope Steven Matz - who has been active but unavailable with an injury - will be able to pitch again soon. That will allow the team to send a pitcher back down to triple-A and replace him with Reynolds, a position player.

The Mets begin a three-game home series against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday at 7 p.m., with the game airing on MLB Network outside of the New York and Washington D.C. markets. Wednesday's game will air on ESPN with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
