Bears use long balls to beat Hogs

— Missouri State hit three home runs and beat Arkansas 8-2 Tuesday night at Baum Stadium.

The loss gave the Bears' the season sweep of the home-and-home series and extended the Razorbacks' losing streak to 10 games.

Jeremy Eierman led the Bears' charge, going 5-for-5 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs.

His first home run tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning. Missouri State took the lead a few batters later when a Barrett Loseke wild pitch got by catcher Grant Koch, allowing Matt Fultz to score from third.

The Bears (31-19) added three runs in the third and fifth innings, will all three in the fifth coming via home runs. Spencer Johnson hit a solo shot to start the inning and Eierman hit a two-run home run.

Arkansas pitchers have now allowed 10 home runs in the last four games.

Missouri State pitchers, meanwhile, combined to throw a one-hitter. Starter Austin Knight gave up the one hit and allowed both runs, with only one earned, in five innings, while relievers Sam Perez and Bryan Young held Arkansas (26-26) hitless for the final four innings.

The Razorbacks actually scored first, manufacturing a run off their only hit in the first inning. Carson Shaddy reached on an infield single after the Bears' shortstop hesitated on a throw. He advanced on a passed ball and moved to third on a throwing error by the catcher, then Luke Bonfield's sacrifice fly scored him.

Bonfield had both of Arkansas' RBIs, knocking in Jake Arledge with a groundout to shortstop.

Arkansas ends its regular season with a three-game series at No. 4 Mississippi State beginning Thursday.
