SEC balance of power must be addressed

The SEC West is 9-1 against the SEC East and could easily pick up another victory with Auburn taking on Georgia. If this continues, something needs to be done for parity.

The suggestion here is either move Alabama or Arkansas to the East and Missouri to the West.

Last week was OK but got upset with Mississippi State beating Texas A&M. Georgia beating Kentucky was a mild surprise. Went 6-2 for the week and stand 70-19 for the season.

Here's this week's picks:

LSU AT ARKANSAS

Interim Coach Ed Orgeron gets a chance to show that unlike Les Miles, he can rally the troops after the Tigers received an emotional gut-check Saturday in a loss to Alabama. The Hogs will have trouble running against LSU, but with Austin Allen at quarterback and several good receivers, the passing game is the Razorbacks' strength. Arkansas 24-21.

NEW MEXICO STATE AT ASU

The Red Wolves have won 13 consecutive conference games and a victory here would get them within one game of being bowl eligible. ASU simply needs to take care of its knitting to continue its tradition of being part of the postseason action, with six bowl bids available to the Sun Belt. ASU 27-17.

MISSISSIPPI STATE AT ALABAMA

Do not expect the Crimson Tide to blow out the Bulldogs even if they get the chance. They have a stranglehold on the No. 1 ranking in the College Football Playoff rankings, and have a tuneup with Tennessee-Chattanooga after Mississippi State before getting arch-rival Auburn, which has won six in a row and appears to be improving each week. The Bulldogs made their season by beating Texas A&M last week, knocking the Aggies out of playoff contention. Alabama 42-21.

AUBURN AT GEORGIA

The Bulldogs, who won last week, can become bowl eligible if they extend their winning streak to two. There was a time when getting bowl eligible was never a question at Georgia, but the brass fired Mark Richt. The Dawgs still get Louisiana-Lafayette and Georgia Tech. The Tigers have Alabama A&M next week and close the season in Tuscaloosa hoping for a Donald Trump-type upset over the Crimson Tide, which would put Auburn in the SEC Championship game with practically a bye to the playoffs. Auburn 35, Georgia 21.

SOUTH CAROLINA AT FLORIDA

The Gators lost the game and their quarterback in Fayetteville, and the Gamecocks are champing at the bit. What Florida didn't lose was a good defensive front and great secondary. Look for the Gators to regain a little of that grip it had on making it to the Alabama Invitational, commonly known as the SEC Championship game. Florida 17-13.

KENTUCKY AT TENNESSEE

The Wildcats will get bowl eligible, just not this weekend against the Vols or in the season finale against Clemson. Next week Kentucky gets Austin Peay at home. Austin Peay has a perfect record, 0-9. The Vols should win out, as usual in November, and help their bowl status. Tennessee 35-17

OLE MISS AT TEXAS A&M

Maybe they should set up a dunking booth and the first team that dunks 10 clowns wins. Both lost their quarterback last week, but the Rebels also are catching the Aggies after a shocking loss to Mississippi State. So A&M may be down. Or maybe the Aggies will want payback for last year, when Ole Miss won 23-3. Chances are A&M will have its head up and know it is playing for an upper-tiered bowl. Texas A&M 24-21.

VANDERBILT AT MISSOURI

The Tigers can assure themselves of being an SEC East cellar dweller with a loss to the Commodores, who are still hopeful of getting into postseason action. Vandy is about a million to one to do that, so this may be their bowl game. Vandy will coast if they can find a way to slow the Tigers. Vanderbilt 28-18.
