Best web comments of the week

On expectations going into the season …

Piggybacker: We could win out … and go 8-4, and that would exceed my preseason pick of 7-5, but it sure doesn’t feel like an 8-4 season thus far.

Randy Reece: So far, it really feels like 6-4.

On this week’s opponent, Mississippi State …

JGAGE: Don’t sleep on Mississippi State. It will be a tough game in Starkville. It will be senior day and they can run the football … Lose this game and it will be a looooong offseason.

Hogmaestro: I, for one, am certainly not sleeping on Mississippi State, or Mizzou, for that matter. … I am just hoping we win out, go 8-4, and head to a decent bowl. There’s still stuff to hope for. Eight-and-four maintains upward trend …

Hog Treat: Miss-Stake took a physical beating (in a 51-3 loss) at ’Bama (Saturday). … I think they get up for ’Bama in a big way since they are so close to each other, so that’s an emotional game for them. They will be tough as always but their offense is a shadow of what it was before. My fear is, can this offensive line play like they did against Florida …

Clay Henry: Hogs will have to earn it in Starkville. They always do. It’s never going to be an easy game, never. I don’t recall ever going to Starkville and not having your hands full.

LDHog: … We need to quiet the cowbells early on — the stupid, annoying cowbells.

Swine Fusion: In ’06, we went to Starkville with a chance to clinch the West against a Moo U. team that finished 3-9. We ended up winning, but it was a war. Only ran for about 100 yards in that game.

Hog-N-Das: Dawgs have to win out to be bowl-eligible. Trust me, they will by up! With that in mind, remain patient, make no silly mistakes/turnovers and hopefully outlast them. Those annoying cowbells need to go! How do you keep a Mississippi State fan from biting his nails? Tell him to put on his shoes!

Rzbackangler: Coach Bielema has not beaten the Dawgs yet. We really need another SEC win. I hope the Florida team shows up.

Matt Jones: I thought Mississippi State was a sure win a month ago. Not anymore. Starkville is a tough place to play and that team still has a chance to make a bowl game. I think Arkansas will have its hands full …

On the season so far …

Razorgator: The only loss I regret is A&M. ‘Bama (is) No. 1; LSU, top 5; Auburn, top 10-15. We are solid. Just keep the faith.

Hot Treat: I agree and feel that we are terribly unfortunate to catch LSU and Auburn after they got it together.

Matt Jones: There is no shame in losing to any of those teams, but there is some in the margins — 21, 52 and 28. Arkansas should be better than that with as many upperclassmen as it has. It’s kind of hard to believe its closest loss was to Alabama (19 points).

On Arkansas’ inconsistency this season …

Hogman85: Jekyll and Hyde. That’s this Arkansas team. … Hard to understand the enigma that is this team.

Eaglehog5: Not really. The teams that have “Hyded” us have been much stronger than us on both lines of scrimmage. Add to that the fact that our battered quarterback is now less than 100 percent and you have a formula for what happened …

Predictions for the Mississippi State game …

LoudLoyd: I’m clueless what to think. Gladiators one week; gladiolas the next. … Arkansas has better players than MSU. I also believe we have better coaches. If we play clean and with few mistakes, I don’t see how we can’t win. Yes, running quarterbacks have given us fits. But this guy isn’t in the same league with the players we’ve seen. Mississippi State gets the cowbells going early because it’s senior day and they still have a bowl game to play for. The tide will be turning by halftime and we win going away, 38-24. Or not.

Dm919: So far our players have responded every time to what could have been a spirit-crushing loss. But I think they knew they were beaten by more talented teams in LSU and ’Bama. Sometimes that is no so crushing. We are the more talented team this week and do we do well in the games when we have equal or better talent. Arkansas, 28-17, to end the fourgame losing streak to MSST.

Eaglehog5: Me going negative didn’t help last week. This week I’ll pump a little sunshine into this dark world and say Hogs 42, Miss Steak 28.
