UA OL commit Kirby Adcock paves the way for Nashville's 91 points

Arkansas commit Kirby Adcock, right.

— As successful as Nashville’s football program has been over the years, the Scrappers’ offense has certainly put up a ton of points.

But on Friday night, Arkansas offensive line commit Kirby Adcock (6-5, 280) and his Nashville squad lit up the scoreboard in a record-setting way in a 91-63 win over visiting Idabel, Okla.

The 154 combined points tied the state record that was previously set in Fountain Lake’s 88-66 win over Hot Springs Lakeside.

“It was crazy,” Adcock said. “It was very exciting to be a part of and at one point I was thinking we were going to score 100. Our offensive line, backs and receivers all did a great job.”

Nashville, which holds the state’s longest current winning streak at 18, had 747 yards of total offense with tailback Darius Hopkins rushing 19 times for 269 yards and 8 touchdowns.

The Scrappers (3-0) have won all 18 of the games in head coach Mike Volarvich’s tenure and are averaging 66.3 points and 592.3 yards total offense so far this season heading into this Friday night’s game with visiting Arkadelphia.

“Coach V is a big factor with his play calls,” Adcock said. “He seems to always know what to call and when to call it.”

Volarvich is a former junior college assistant coach at Blinn, Texas, Community College and East Mississippi Community College, the school that was featured in the Nexflix documentary “Last Chance U.”

“I have been involved in some games where we have scored in the 80s and in one state championship junior college game when I was at East Mississippi where we won 75-71,” Volarvich said.

“But this was something else. I think there were three times when we were tackling one of their players to the ground and they pitched it to another guy and they scored all three times.

“It was just crazy, but I think helped us get ready for conference play that starts next week.”

Volarvich says that Adcock has been a big key in his team’s early success that includes scoring 61 points in the first half in the season opener.

“Kirby has just been dominant and playing great,” Volarvich said. “He graded out at 95 percent in both of the first two games and had nine pancake blocks in the first week.

“He has been a great leader for us and has us thinking about doing big things this season.”
