The Recruiting Guy

Cousin has talked up Arkansas to ESPN 300 safety

Junior safety Isaiah Humphries' cousin attended Arkansas and specks highly of her experience.

— Highly regarded junior safety Isaiah Humphries hasn’t visited Arkansas for a game, but he’s been to Fayetteville enough to be interested in the Hogs.

“I’ve actually been up there a couple of times with my cousin,” Humphries said. “She went there, and I went there for her graduation, and I checked it out.”

Humphries, 6-0, 188 pounds, of Sachse, Texas, has 15 scholarship offers from schools like Oklahoma, Penn State, Vanderbilt, SMU, California, Colorado and Northwestern.

His cousin went on to Texas A&M to pursue her master's degree, but still has Arkansas in her heart.

“She loved it,” Humphries said. “She said after she went to A&M, she wanted to go back. She said she liked Arkansas, she liked the town and the people there, just the whole environment. She said, ‘If I could’ve stayed, I would’ve been happier there.'”

Humphries, who ESPN rates as the No. 11 safety and No. 164 overall prospect in the nation for the 2018 class, has recorded 24 tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 quarterback hurry and 1 forced fumble in four games this season.

He plans to attend the Hogs’ game against Texas A&M as an Aggie recruit. He hopes to make it back to Fayetteville for a game.

“I’m definitely trying to get up there,” he said.

Sachse Coach Mark “Red” Behrens said Humphries has a 4.27 grade point average.

“He’s a young man that’s very focused and very driven, and he knows what his future is all about, and there’s no question in my mind he’ll achieve it.” Behrens said.

Humphries is a member of the National Honor Society, French National Honors Society, French Club and the Superintendents Scholarship Program. He wants to major in business and is aware of the reputation of the Sam M. Walton College of Business.

“I want to be a chief executive officer one day,” Humphries said.

Arkansas receivers coach Michael Smith has told him an offer could be coming soon.

“He said he’s been watching me, and he likes what I’m doing,” Humphries said. “Hopefully, it will come soon.”
