Patriots take Deatrich Wise in NFL Draft

Arkansas defensive end Deatrich Wise (48) rushes Texas A&M quarterback Kyle Allen during a game Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, in Arlington, Texas.

— Deatrich Wise was selected by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday.

The 6-foot-5, 274-pound defensive end was the No. 131 overall pick in the draft and the first Arkansas player selected.

He is the second Arkansas defensive end drafted by the Patriots in the past three years. Trey Flowers was a third-round pick in 2015 and led the Patriots in sacks last season.

Wise was a four-year letterman and two-year starter for the Razorbacks. He finished his career 112 tackles, 23 tackles-for-loss, 17 quarterback hurries and 16.5 sacks, which ranks fourth in school history.

He played in all 13 games as a senior but was limited by injuries, finishing with 49 tackles, 5.5 tackles-for-loss and 3.5 sacks. He entered the year as a preseason All-SEC selection by multiple outlets following a junior season that included an SEC-best 8 sacks during conference play.

Wise played in the East-West Shrine game and was invited to the NFL Draft Combine following the conclusion of his senior season.
