Friday Recruiting Tidbits

Chevin Calloway

— After locking down a top-notch cornerback Thursday, Arkansas is entering its biggest recruiting weekend for the 2017 class.

The Razorbacks are hosting 13 official visitors this weekend, including seven already pledged to Arkansas.

The weekend begins a day after the Razorbacks added a 22nd signee/commit in Muskogeee, Okla., defensive back Kamren Curl (6-2, 195), who is among those on hand in Fayetteville this weekend.

“Not that I am committed, I am coming over to Fayetteville to help do my part in landing some of these other guys,” noted Curl, who chose Arkansas over Oklahoma, Nebraska, TCU and others.

Curl will do his part to help out with uncommitted Dallas Bishop Dunne cornerback Chevin Calloway (5-11, 185) and New Orleans, La., McDonough 35 safety Brad Stewart (6-0, 190).

Calloway, once committed to Iowa, has visited Ole Miss and Texas with his final official schedule this weekend for Arkansas.

Stewart, who is driving with several members of his family, has been to Arizona State and is expected to visit Florida next weekend.

Adding that duo would give Arkansas seven standout secondary players in the class along with cornerbacks Kurl, Jarques McClellion (6-1, 180) and Jordan Curtis (6-2, 185) and safeties Montaric Brown (6-1, 180) of Ashdown and Metarie, La., Archbishop star Derrick Munson (6-0, 200), who could also play outside linebacker.

“I think this is a really good class that Arkansas has gotten together,” Curl said. “All we need to do is add a couple more and then go to work.”

Ten of Arkansas’ 22 signees or commits are early enrollees and started classes this week.

The Razorbacks are thought to be looking for two or three more pledges to round out the class.

Stewart chose to drive and bring several of his family members.

Richardson will be accompanied by former Razorbacks defensive lineman Alfred Davis, who was recently hired as the defensive line coach at Hutchison.
