Jordon Curtis among trio adding Oklahoma flavor to Arkansas class

Jordon Curtis, Jenks (Okla.) High tailback/defensive back, plays on Friday, July 15, 2016, during their game against Elkins High as part of the Southwest Elite 7-on-7 tournament at Rogers High School.

Arkansas cornerback pledge Jordon Curtis (6-0, 180 pounds) is one of three Oklahoma products in the Razorbacks' recruiting class of 2017.

He's happy about that even though he has spent time the last few years butting heads with Union linebacker Kyrei Fisher (6-3, 235) and Muskogee cornerback Kamren Curl (6-2, 190).

“I think it is a really great thing that we have some kids coming out of Oklahoma,” Curtis said. “We are all brothers now that we are teammates. We’ve been friends.”

Curtis and Curl are two of six secondary commits for the Razorbacks, along with Ashdown safety Montaric Brown, Louisiana safety Derrick Munson and Florida cornerbacks Korey Hernandez and Jacques McClellion. Hernandez already is enrolled at the university.

Arkansas is also hoping to add Dallas Bishop Dunne cornerback Chevin Calloway (5-11, 180), who officially visited the Razorbacks with the others this past weekend.

“I love it and it seems like they are all players and we are had a really good bond,” Curtis said.

All talked about their happiness with secondary coach Paul Rhoads being elevated to defensive coordinator.

“I think he is good for the position and I am glad that he is my coach,” Curtis said. “In the past when I went to the camp, he worked with me and I learned a lot of good techniques.”

Curtis had 20 tackles and four interceptions (three returned for touchdowns), as well as more than 800 yards rushing and 200 yards receiving as a senior at Jenks. His team finished 11-1 with the only loss being 45-21 to arch rival Union in the Class 6A state semifinals.

“It was a fun experience,” Curtis said of his visit. “It was great going out and just learning more about my future school.”
