UA signee named state player of the year

Lonoke senior shortstop Casey Martin was named the Gatorade Arkansas baseball player of the year Tuesday.

Martin, 5-11, 175 pounds, is the first Gatorade baseball player of the year from Lonoke.

In 2017, Martin batted .595 with 10 home runs, 32 RBI and scored 52 runs, leading the Jackrabbits to a 21-13 record and the Class 4A quarterfinals.

Martin has signed to play baseball at Arkansas next season.
