Bohanon and mother enjoy Arkansas visit

Gerry Bohanon

Arkansas is working hard to land highly-sought Earle quarterback Gerry Bohanon and this weekend’s official visit appears to have helped the cause.

“My visit went really good,” Bohanon said. “I really enjoyed it, I enjoyed every bit of it. The game was good, I enjoyed hanging with the players. Oh my God, they fed me so much. I probably gained 5 pounds.”

Bohanon, 6-4, 215 pounds, narrowed his list of scholarship offers to Arkansas, Mississippi State, Louisville, Ole Miss, Baylor and Georgia in May. He recently said he’s open to other schools looking to pursue him.

Arkansas' fans made a strong impression on him.

“They really made me feel at home,” Bohanon said. “Taking pictures with the kids, people that just knew me and calling my name, it made me feel like I was kind of important.”

Bohanon and his mother ate breakfast at Coach Bret Bielema’s home Sunday before leaving for Earle. He said his mother enjoyed the official visit.

“She loved every bit of it,” Bohanon said. “I was peeking back at her during the game and looking at her when I wasn’t really around her, and she seemed like she was really feeling it. That’s a good thing, that’s a really good sign.”

He has completed 77 of 121 passes for 1,829 yards and 20 touchdowns, and rushed for 904 yards and 13 touchdowns on 55 carries this season. He threw for 2,734 yards and rushed for more than 1,000 yards as a junior.

Freshman receiver Koilan Jackson was Bohanon’s host. The two have known one another for awhile and hit it off well during the weekend.

“He’s a good dude,” Bohanon said. “I’ve been knowing Koilan since he was in high school. We started working out together. We’re almost the same exact size. My first time meeting him, we bonded right then. We just kept it going, kept in contact and we’re always talking. I’m wishing him good luck on recovering. We have a good relationship.”

ESPN rates Bohanon the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback and the No. 122 overall prospect in the nation. The Hogs already have a commitment from quarterback Connor Noland of Greenwood in the class of 2018.

“They want both of us because they want to run some new things,” Bohanon said. “They want me to come in and be quarterback, too. That’s where they’re at with it.”

Bohanon likes what he’s hearing from the coaches and what they have planned for him if he joins the program.

“They’ve been honest with me for quite a bit of time now,” he said. “I’m kind of interested in what they want to do with me and my talents.”

He said Noland has been relentless is trying to get him to be a Razorback.

“Connor is always recruiting me hard,” Bohanon said. “When he found out I was going (to visit), he messaged me on Twitter right then.”

Bohanon has unofficially visited LSU, Baylor and Louisville. He gave an update on the schools he’ll likely visit in the future.

“I’m going on an unofficial visit to LSU for when they play Arkansas next weekend,” Bohanon said. “I don’t have any more officials lined up yet. I know I’ll probably (officially) visit Baylor, LSU, and I don’t know the other two.”
