FAYETTEVILLE — Dates have been set for what is sure to be Arkansas' most anticipated midweek series of the 2018 baseball schedule.
The Razorbacks will host Texas on March 13-14, according to the Longhorns' schedule that was released Friday. It will be Texas' first trip to Fayetteville since May 1991 when the teams were Southwest Conference rivals, and first ever trip to Baum Stadium.
Arkansas is expected to return a trip to Austin, Texas, during the 2019 season.
The Longhorns lead the all-time series 54-28, but the teams have played just five games since the Razorbacks left the SWC. They last met at the Houston College Classic in 2012, a 7-3 Arkansas win. Texas beat the Razorbacks at the 2004 College World Series and took two of three against Arkansas the following year during an NCAA regional in Austin.
Texas was 39-24 last season, Big 12 Tournament runner-up and lost in the regional championship at Long Beach State.
The Longhorns are part of an impressive nonconference schedule for Arkansas in the coming season that includes home games against Southern Cal (March 2-4), Missouri State (April 17) and Texas Tech (TBA), and the Razorbacks are expected to play at least one game against Arizona at the Tony Gwynn Invitational in San Diego in February.
Arkansas is expected to release its 2018 schedule some time this month, but several games already have been unveiled through opponents' schedule releases or through open records requests.
