The Arkansas Razorback basketball team won twice Friday night when the Hogs defeated Central Oklahoma and highly regarded power forward Reggie Chaney privately committed to the coaches.

He went public with his pledge on Saturday afternoon.

Chaney, 6-8, 230 pounds of Findlay Prep in Nevada had approximately 15 scholarship offers, but officially visited the Hogs, Texas A&M, TCU, Oklahoma State and Wichita State before picking Coach Mike Anderson’s program.

“I just feel like it’s the right decision for me and they fit my playing style,” Chaney said. “They get up and down, tough and aggressive.”

As a junior, he averaged 11.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.6 steals and a block a game for the 33-4 Pilots. He and fellow Hog pledge and guard Jordan Phillips officially visited Fayetteville Sept. 15.

“The coaching staff is like a family to me and the guys as well,” Chaney said. “I felt like we had a great bond when we were on the visit. It just felt right. It felt like home right off the bat."

He played for RM5 Elite during the summer and the Hogs were a regular at his games during the evaluation period. ESPN rates him a 4-star prospect and the No. 28 power forward in the nation.

Hog assistant Scotty Thurman headed up Chaney’s recruiting and played a big role in landing him.

“He was definitely on me,” Chaney said. “ After every visit he asked me how it went. He just showed love from the start. He was there from day one. He was at a lot of my games during the summer and that meant a lot to me.”

Chaney said he knew it was the Hogs for him Friday morning.

“I felt like it was Arkansas,” Chaney said.

He becomes Arkansas' No. 6 commitment for the 2018 class. Oral commitments are non-binding.
