Phillips excited about what he found on Arkansas visit

Jordan Phillips

Arlington, Texas, Grace Prep Academy star Jordan Phillips is in the midst of taking four official visits to determined where he will play his college basketball.

Phillips (6-7, 210), who was offered by Arkansas coach Mike Anderson on a home visit Monday, finished up his trek to Fayetteville on Sunday with the Razorbacks leaving a great impression.

“Just the atmosphere and everything the program has to offer,” Phillips said. “As soon as I came out here, I could sense the family environment and that really showed me a lot.

“I also really liked the coaches. It was all just so cool and I really loved being down here. Just loved it.”

Phillips, who visited Fresno State in August and has trips to Georgetown and Virginia Tech left, averaged 21 points and 6 rebounds last season, and visited Arkansas on the same weekend as Henderson, NV., Findlay Prep power forward Reggie Chaney (6-8, 230).

Phillips is likely to play both shooting guard and small forward in college and has discussed that with Anderson.

“He talked to me about that again,” Phillips said. “He said I am just a ballplayer and that he wants me to come in and be a presence and doing whatever it takes to win. I understand him when he says that. I get it. I came see myself coming in and doing exactly that.”

Phillips was on the Arkansas campus Saturday when IMG Academy point guard Keyshawn Embery (6-4, 187) committed to the Razorbacks.

Embery is the fourth commit in the 2018 class for Arkansas along with Little Rock Parkview forward Ethan Henderson (6-9, 190), Fort Smith Northside guard Isaiah Joe (6-4, 170) and Jonesboro guard Desi Sills (6-1, 170).

“That was a nice pick-up,” Phillips said. “That’s going to be live to see. And then if we get me and Reggie, that would be two other great pick-ups.”

He likes what he sees of the current Arkansas team.

“As far as this season, I think they are going to be really solid,” Phillips said. “I got to see them workout and they have some really, really great players and a couple of others that are real nice. They are one of those teams that people are going to have to be looking out for nationally.”

Phillips plans to sign in the Nov. 8-15 early signing period after taking his final two visits to Georgetown (Sept. 22-24) and Virginia Tech (Sept. 29-Oct. 1).

“I am just going to see how those two other visits go and probably some time soon after that is when I will make my decision,” Phillips said. “I'll do that after sitting down with my family and seeing which school is the best fit.”
