SPRINGDALE — Sophomore guard Moses Moody provided another glimpse Saturday as to why high-major programs want his services.
Moody (6-5, 180) scored 18 points -- 13 in the first half -- and finished with two assists and two blocks in Bradley Beal Elite 17U’s 69-23 win over Court of Dreams. He scored nine straight points during a dominant first-half stretch and 11 of 15 at one point. His two blocks came on perimeter jumpshots.
“My teammates were finding me all game and they put me in all the right positions,” said Moody, who finished 4 of 7 from 3-point range in the win. “It was just feeling good. They were all open shots, and I was knocking them down. That’s what I’m supposed to do.”
The North Little Rock High School star holds scholarship offers from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Florida State and Baylor. Villanova, which has won two of the last three national championships, and Duke are the latest to reach out to his camp, he said.
Programs of Villanova and Duke’s caliber making contact is a humbling feeling for him.
“It’s great because I know not everybody is getting that opportunity,” he said. “But at the same time it lets me know I have to work against the other players they’re recruiting.
“I might start working out thinking I’m winning because other people aren’t working out, but that’s not who I’m competing against.”
Arkansas’ staff also stopped by one of his practices this week.
“I’ve got a good relationship with them. It’s still early,” Moody said.
Moody, who won a class 7A state championship last season at North Little Rock, raved about the talent level of those he will play alongside this spring and summer.
“It’s definitely another level for me,” he said. “Being able to play with a point guard like Yuri Collins (5-11, 175), who can distribute the ball, Mario McKinney Jr. (6-3, 180), who can score in transition, and (Terrence Hargrove Jr.) is jumping out of the gym.
“I just want to get ready for the EYBL. We’re getting everybody acclimated and feeling good playing together.”
