Rangers to host second University of Arkansas night

A custom Texas Rangers hat that features a Razorback logo will be made available to fans as part of the University of Arkansas Night at Globe Life Park.

— For the second consecutive year, the Texas Rangers are hosting a Razorbacks-themed night at their home ballpark in Arlington.

University of Arkansas Night will be next Friday, Aug. 31 during the Rangers’ game against the Minnesota Twins at Globe Life Park. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m.

Arkansas fans that want to participate are asked to purchase vouchers through TexasRangers.com/themenights. The first 1,000 people at the park with the voucher will receive a Razorbacks-themed Rangers hat.

Arkansas is one of 15 universities being featured as part of the Rangers’ University Days promotion, and one of three outside the state of Texas. Other out-of-state universities to be featured are Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

The UA’s enrollment spike over the past decade has been fueled by an influx of Texans. According to enrollment data, the number of Texas students at the UA was 5,868 in 2017, up from 1,495 in 2007 - a 293 percent increase.

The Dallas-Fort Worth metro area is the university’s largest out-of-state alumni base and the Razorbacks play an annual football game against Texas A&M each year at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, about 1 mile from the Rangers' park.

Several MLB teams host similar university-themed events, but the Rangers are believed to be the only to feature Arkansas.
