Morris names 5 captains for opener

Arkansas offensive lineman Hjalte Froholdt (front) goes through practice Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, in Fayetteville.

— Arkansas coach Chad Morris has named five captains for its season opener against Eastern Illinois.

Linebackers Dre Greenlaw and De'Jon Harris, safety Santos Ramirez, receiver Jared Cornelius and offensive lineman Hjalte Froholdt are Game 1 captains. Harris, a junior, is the only member of the quartet that is not a senior.

Ramirez was a captain during the 2017 season. He, Froholdt, Greenlaw and McTelvin Agim were members of a preseason leadership committee formed by the first-year coach Morris.

The Razorbacks will name captains on a by-game basis for most of the season, Morris said last month. Morris said he likes to wait until November to name permanent captains.

"I want to see how they respond in August, September and October," he said Aug. 5. "Because we want to have a November to remember, and into the bowl game. So those guys will take over from there."

Permanent captains will have their pictures displayed on the walls of the Fred W. Smith Center, the Razorbacks' football office.

"I think it's a big deal to be captain of your team," Morris said.
