Rathcke's banner weekend includes back-to-back state titles

Arkansas offensive line pledge Dylan Rathcke has had a few better weekends than this one, but not many.

Rathcke (6-5, 290) helped lead Baton Rouge, La., University Lab High School to a second straight state title on Friday at the New Orleans Mercedes-Benz Superdome and then spent Saturday through Monday in Fayetteville checking out his future home.

“I was very excited,” Rathcke said. “It is the first time that U-High has ever done it twice in a row. Everybody was just going crazy in the locker room.”

Lab pushed its winning streak to 27 on Friday with a 55-46 win over St. Thomas More, the last team to beat the Cubs.

The two teams set records for most combined pass attempts (91), most combined first downs (61), most combined total yards (1,210), most combined total plays (159) and most combined penalties (28).

After that it was off to Fayetteville as one of seven official visitors the Razorbacks hosted this weekend.

“Really just getting to meet some of the other O-linemen and knowing who I will be playing with,” Rathcke said of the highlights of the weekend.

Rathcke, whose official host was Razorback freshman offensive lineman Ryan Winkel, got to spend a lot of time with Arkansas offensive line coach Dustin Fry.

Fry is looking at Rathcke as a right tackle.

“He seems like a really great dude,” Rathcke said. “He seems more like a friend than a coach. He just seems like a real good dude.”
