Razorbacks win in Puerto Rico

Arkansas' Maria Fassi became the third Razorback to win three events in a single season on Tuesday, joining Stacy Lewis and Emily Tubert.

The No. 4 Arkansas Razorbacks blew away the field at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic for their fourth victory of the season on Tuesday, led by medalist Maria Fassi, who won the event in San Juan, Puerto Rico, for the second time.

The Razorbacks shot a final-round 12 over in windy conditions at the Rio Mar Country Club's Ocean Course and beat No. 26 Iowa State by 10 strokes for their third team victory at the event. The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, has won four of its five tournaments this season, including this spring opener.

"I’m super proud of this group," Arkansas Coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. "It was not only a test of our games but a test of our mental fortitude. They just did a fantastic job. It was a collaborative effort and it took everyone on the team playing their hearts out."

The Razorbacks had the low round of the tournament with an even par 284 on Sunday to jump out to an eight-shot lead.

No. 22 Kent State finished third at 45 over, followed by No. 43 North Carolina State (+52) and No. 19 Colorado (+55) in the 11-team field.

Fassi was the only player to break par in a single round with her opening 3-under 68. The junior finished the tournament at 3 over and became the third Razorback to win three events in a season, joining Stacy Lewis and Emily Tubert.

Fassi beat Celia Barquin Arozamena of Iowa State by three shots. Arkansas junior Dylan Kim tied for fifth (+8), senior Alana Uriell tied for 16th (+14), while junior Kaylee Benton and freshman Maria Hoyos tied for 20th at 15 over. Senior Jordy LaBarbera tied for 40th at 21 over.

The Razorbacks return to action on March 2 at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Hilton Head Island, S.C.
