Gafford named SEC Freshman of the Week for third time

Arkansas' Daniel Gafford dunks against Vanderbilt Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, during the second half of play in Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville.

Arkansas freshman Daniel Gafford was named SEC Freshman of the Week for a third time on Monday following strong performances in wins at Ole Miss and against Texas A&M.

Gafford made 13 of 15 shots and averaged 18.5 points and six rebounds last week. He becomes the third Razorback to win the award three times in a season, joining Bobby Portis and Patrick Beverley.

Gafford is in the midst of perhaps his most impressive stretch of the conference season. He has scored in double figures in five consecutive games, averaging 15 points on 71 percent from the floor in that span. Gafford scored a team-high 19 points in a 75-64 win at Ole Miss and followed with 18 points against Texas A&M's touted front line.

The Razorbacks return to Bud Walton Arena on Tuesday against Kentucky looking to extend their conference winning streak to five games. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. on ESPN.
