Griffith set an SEC meet record, breaking former Razorback Dorian Ulrey's time of 7:55.56 in 2009.

Junior Kyle Levermore took eighth in the 3,000 8:13.06 to give the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville 19 points in the event.

"With four laps to go, Cameron just broke it wide open and Jack went with him," Razorbacks Coach Chris Bucknam said. "So it was a big, big race for us. A big 19 points to put us back in [the] team race."

Florida leads through four of 17 finals scored with 30.5 points followed by Alabama (28), Georgia (26) and Arkansas (24).

"When that 3,000 came around those three guys came up and said, 'Coach, we're going to score some points here,' " Bucknam said. "So I was really thrilled with how they did."

It was Griffth's first SEC title.

"You could see he's really been coming on," Bucknam said. "I'm just happy for him because he's having fun and he's kind of figured out the college running thing, especially at this level.

"He's just highly motivated. I think he's going to be dangerous runner in a few weeks in that race at the NCAA meet."

Arkansas' other points Saturday came from sophomore Harrison Schrage taking sixth in the long jump (25-3 1/4) and junior Jah-Nhai Perinchief (7-1 3/4) to take seventh in the high jump.

Razorbacks junior Gabe Moore is fourth through four events of the heptathlon with 3,108 points.

Arkansas senior Kenzo Cotton advanced to today's finals in the 60 meters (6.65) and 200 (20.67).

Others advancing for the Razorbacks included Obi Igbokwe (45.97) and Kemar Mowatt (46.15) in the 400, Kieran Taylor in the 800 (1:50.35), Roy Ejiakuewu in the 200 (20.95), Ethan Moehn in the mile (4:05.48) and Larry Donald in the 60 hurdles (7.83).

Other key events today for the Razorbacks will be the 5,000, triple jump and distance medley and 1,600 relays.

"We didn't have a perfect first day," Bucknam said. "We had some really good things happen and then we had some missteps. But we're still in this thing."
