Walk-on offer extended to Bryant safety

Bryant's Cameron Vail scores a touchdown during a game against Fort Smith Southside on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, in Bryant.

Bryant safety Cameron Vail visited with the Razorbacks coaching staff Monday and left with an invitation to walk on.

"I sat down with the defensive staff while they evaluated my film, and they told me that since everyone will be new in the system, there would be an opportunity for me to compete for a spot," Vail said. "The coaches seem like great men, and there's no doubt in my mind that they could turn the program around."

Vail, 6-1, 185, 4.47, has scholarship offers from Air Force, Navy, Ouachita Baptist, Harding, Arkansas Tech, Southern Arkansas and others. He hopes to make his college decision soon.

He recorded 49 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 5 pass breakups and 2 forced fumbles this past season. Vail also rushed 28 times for 94 yards and 7 touchdowns while playing quarterback out of the Wildcat formation.

Bryant Coach Buck James said Vail possesses a lot of intangibles.

"His play speaks for itself. What he bring to a football team is unmeasurable — leadership on the field and in the dressing room is unmatched," James said. I think whichever team gets Cameron, they'll get a winner and really good athlete."

Vail played and started on the USA 17-under select team that competed in China during the summer of his sophomore year. He also excels off the field.

"He's a winner in the classroom with over a 4.0 GPA and 29 on the ACT," James said.
