— Arkansas landed a pair of verbal commitments for the 2019 and 2021 classes on Sunday.

Zane Neves (6-0, 200), a right handed pitcher from Jonesboro, became the 13th member of the Razorbacks' 2019 class shortly after attending Arkansas' pitching camp on Saturday.

“I have always liked the school since I was younger," Neves said. "We had been looking into it and they finally offered. We talked it over on the drive back home and decided that was just the place I wanted to go.

“The coaching staff seemed pretty excited about it. They said they were pumped and excited for me to get over there.”

Arkansas Sticks coach Chase Brewster said he had an idea Arkansas was Neves' dream school and that a strong performance this weekend would likely earn him an offer.

"Apparently he was really, really good," Brewster said. "It was exciting for him and his family to get that chance to go to a place they’d always wanted to go to. It was just one of those deals where he put his head down and worked and had a really good offseason. He’s fresh and he’s healthy right now, and we knew he’d worked really hard.”

Neves stood out during the Sticks' trip to the Perfect Game MLK tournament in Phoenix. The right-hander threw five innings of no-hit ball, striking out 12 while his fastball topped out at 90.

“It felt pretty good, especially with it being the first outing since last summer," Neves said. "Being able to come back like that felt pretty good. I loved it (in Arizona), and having a defense behind me made it a lot better.”

Neves recorded 107 strikeouts in 70 innings last season for Jonesboro, which finished 29-4 and state runner-up in class 6A.

Arkansas' first commitment of the day came from third baseman Josh Phillips (6-2, 205) of Bridgeland, Texas. Phillips is the third member of the Razorbacks' 2021 class.

Verbal commitments are not binding.
