FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor will induct its largest class ever in September.
This year's class will include 14 former Arkansas athletes from 10 sports and former men's golf coach Steve Loy.
The class is headlined by former shooting guard Jonathon Modica, a two-time All-SEC player who scored 1,589 points from 2002-06; former baseball pitcher Nick Schmidt, a two-time All-American pitcher and first-round MLB draft pick who had a career 2.83 ERA and 345 strikeouts from 2005-07; and three former All-American football players from the 1980s: kicker Bruce Lahay, who made an NCAA-leading 19 field goals in 1981; defensive lineman Ron Faurot, who had seven sacks in 1983; and punter Greg Horne, who led the NCAA with a 47.2-yard average in 1986.
Other notables from this year's class:
• April Steiner Bennett, a four-time All-American pole vaulter from 2000-03
• Ivan Jordan, a three-time Southwest Conference defensive end from 1972-75
• Steve Loy, the men's golf coach from 1984-87 who led the Razorbacks to four NCAA postseason appearances and coached five All-Americans, including John Daly and Sean Pappas
• Rickey Medlock, whose 90.4 career free throw percentage from 1973-75 is still an Arkansas record
• Sytia Messer, a starter on Arkansas' 1998 women's Final Four team
• Jerry Spencer, a five-time All-American swimmer from 1979-81 on the Razorbacks' defunct men's swimming and diving team
• Randy Stephens, a four-time All-American and four-time SWC champion distance runner from 1979-82
• Kim Storey Chronister, a 1998 volleyball All-American
Ewell Lee, a three-year tennis letterman from the 1950s, and Dana McQuillin, a member of Arkansas' first gymnastics team, will also be inducted.
This year's induction will take place Sept. 14 and the inductees will be introduced at halftime of Arkansas' football game against North Texas on Sept. 15.
