Warren DL Miller commits to Arkansas; Burks on deck

— Arkansas added another top in-state prospect -- its third commit on Saturday and a sixth defensive pledge this week -- when Warren defensive tackle Marcus Miller (6-5, 300) became the Razorbacks’ 14th commit of the 2019 recruiting class.

Miller, a three-star prospect per ESPN, is the third in-state pledge for the Razorbacks so far along with Joe T. Robinson defensive end Zach Williams (6-4, 225) and Rison cornerback Malik Chavis (6-2, 190).

Miller, who attended Arkansas’ Woo Pig Nic cookout in Fayetteville on Friday, chose the Razorbacks over Tennessee, Missouri and Memphis.

“I came up there yesterday, they treated me like family and it felt like home,” Miller said. “It was good, a lot of people came, a lot of great players and it made me want to be a part of it.”

Miller is a teammate with wide receiver Treylon Burks (6-3, 210), the No. 2 player in the 2019 class per Hawgs Illustrated and the nation’s 81st-best overall prospect per ESPN.com.

“I’m working on him right now,” Miller said. “I am telling him its time to go ahead and get in the boat with the rest of us. I feel like he will soon.”

Miller is noted as a big-time run stopper and is now one six defensive linemen pledged to the Razorbacks in the 2019 class.

“I can stop the run and sack the quarterback,” Miller said. “I also can make plays down the field as I have good speed for my size.”

Burks also visited on Friday and both he and Miller are slated to come back for their official visits during the Arkansas-Alabama weekend of Oct. 6.

"I liked it a lot," Burks said. “I like how Arkansas is moving up the charts. They're going to be good this year and I think they're about to have a good program.”

Burks noted the visit helped Arkansas a lot in its quest to land him with head coach Chad Morris, offensive coordinator Joe Craddock and wide receiver coach Justin Stepp all in his ear on Friday.

“It helped, because I like the way Coach Morris, Coach Craddock and Coach Stepp treat you like you are part of the family,” Burks said. “They made us feel at home and that’s always good.”

Burks had 45 catches for 1,090 yards and 12 touchdowns last season while also rushing for 936 yards and 27 more scores as a junior and said the Razorback staff stressed how he would be a big cog in their new offensive system.

“They did,” said Burks, who has 143 catches for 3,159 yards and 39 touchdowns in his three-year high school career. “It’s a ‘go get ‘em offense and I like that a lot.”

Burks, who is a private person and doesn’t like to travel a lot, made his first visit to Fayetteville since the 2016 season.

He has offers from Arkansas, Ole Miss, LSU, Florida State, Clemson, Oklahoma, Michigan, Tennessee and others.

“It's been a minute since I've been up here, like two years,” Burks said. “ I think it's going to be good up here with Coach Morris."
