What Chad Morris said about Arkansas' second spring practice

Chad Morris, Arkansas head coach, works with quarterback Ty Storey Thursday, March 1, 2018, during Arkansas spring football practice at the Fred W. Smith Football Center in Fayetteville.

— Chad Morris recaps Arkansas' second day of spring practice:

Chad Morris

-Morris opens by saying there's a lot of buzz around Fayetteville right now, and he'll be heading to Baum Stadium for the baseball game at some point today.

-"We're very pleased with the first day of pads." He said they ran a two-minute drill right at the end of practice. The guys responded and rebounded. Overall, offensive install is extremely slow. They're trying to think fast but they're moving slow. By design, they're drinking out of a firehouse.

-Santos Ramirez was the first name that Morris mentioned when asked about guys that jumped out. Sosa Agim had a good day. Randy Ramsey did some good things defensively. Nate Dalton at corner and Maleek Barkley on the offensive side.

-The quarterbacks were about like Morris thought. There was a little bit of inconsistency. He's hoping for a bit more clarity on the position by the time Arkansas gets to the first scrimmage.

-Morris says Arkansas is thin along the offensive line and Deion Malone, who was moved to the defensive side of the ball, could move back.

-Morris said the guys have been really inconsistent with the shotguns snaps to this point. Too many balls on the ground today.

-Morris loves Jared Cornelius' leadership style. He's been kept out of contact, but he's trying to teach the other guys what he knows. Michael Woods made a catch to win the 2-minute drill.

-The newcomers are doing very well. Isaiah Nichols, being a big guy going against some bigger and more experienced guys, is learning the system. He's not backing down just because he's a true freshman, and neither are the other guys. Woods has done some really great things and has great speed.

-The tight ends group is like every other right now. They're struggling with pace of play, formations. They're seeing it, thinking, then moving. We want them to see it and move. We've got depth there, and they made some great catches today.

-Brandon Martin, for day 2, is doing some good things and we're trying to get him into some 1-on-1 matchups. Biggest thing for him is working against press coverage.

-Sosa's motor runs wide open even in walk-thru. He's very much respected among his peers, and that's stood out. Sosa is not afraid to come and talk to you. He's come to me just to talk about different things.

-Morris said he was asked by about three different high school coaches about where the thought his current talent level is. He noted the roster needs to be faster. You've got to be able to develop guys and bring in the elite players across the country. "We're going to get it going, and when it does it's going to take off. ... You better get on the bandwagon now."

-On the 2-minute drills: It was a good on good situation. There was 1:40 on the clock, down five and the offense had to go down and win it. The first offense threw a pick, then Woods caught the touchdown pass from Ty Storey to win it for the second group.

-Chad Morris confirmed that linebacker Josh Paul is not with the program.
