Arkansas beats Kent State in rubber match

Razorbacks score 10 unanswered runs to take the rubber game of the three-game series. Evan Lee gets the win for Arkansas, who homered four times, three in the seventh as they broke away from a 4-4 tie.

Arkansas 7, Kent State 4 - Bottom 8th inning

Jordan McFarland hits a grand slam - his second homer of the day and of the season - and Arkansas is now comfortably ahead. The Razorbacks have now scored 10 unanswered runs.

Arkansas 7, Kent State 4 - Middle 8th inning

Evan Lee gives up a lead off single to Mason Mamarella, but escapes any damage. Lee, in position to pick up a win, has now gone a career-high 3 1/3 scoreless innings while allowing two hits and fanning a batter.

Arkansas 7, Kent State 4 - End 7th inning

Evan Lee has a 1-2-3 seventh and Casey Martin, Jordan McFarland and Carson Shaddy then all homer in a span of four batters.

Kent State 4, Arkansas 4- End 6th inning

Jared Skolnicki heads to the mound to replace Joey Murray. Grant Koch walks and Carson Shaddy reaches on an error, but Jax Biggers can't get a bunt down and fans. Eric Cole then pops out in foul territory.

Arkansas freshman Heston Kjerstad comes through in the clutch with a two-out, two-run double to tie Kent State 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth.

Kent State 4, Arkansas 2- End 5th inning

Casey Martin's two-out, run-scoring double cuts Kent State's lead to 4-2, but the Razorbacks can't get plate any more. Jordan McFarland pinch-hit for Jared Gates - likely injury - and takes a called third strike to end the fifth inning.

Kent State 4, Arkansas 1- Middle 5th inning

Bryce Bonin is lifted in mid-count for Kole Ramage with two outs in the fifth and runners on the corners. Ramage walked a batter and then gave up a two-run single to Mason Mamarella. Third baseman Casey Martin's error then allowed a fourth run to score and ended Ramage's day in favor of Evan Lee, who got the final out.

Bonnin went 4 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on three hits and throwing 74 pitches, 43 of which were strikes.

Arkansas 1, Kent State 1 - Middle 4th inning

Nick Kanavas led off the fourth with a single, but was caught off first base when Pavin Parks lined out to Jax Biggers who fired to first baseman Jared Parks, who made a great stretch at first.

Jax Biggers with a fantastic double play to end the top of the third. Dives for grounder up middle, taps the bag and throws on to first.

Eric Cole leads off the bottom of the third with a double, moves up to third Heston Kjerstad's ground out and scores on Luke Bonfield's infield single.

Arkansas has now stranded three runners - two in the bottom of the first and another in the second.

Neither pitcher has allowed a hit so far.

Arkansas' Dominic Fletcher just misses a three-run homer, but Kent State starter Joey Murray gets out of the frame unscathed and leads the Razorbacks 1-0 heading into the second inning

After walking his first two batters, Arkansas freshman starter Bryce Bonnin gave up a one-out sacrifice fly to Pavin Parks before getting out of the inning without any more trouble.

Pregame

Arkansas and Kent State are about set to play again for the first time in two days. Both teams went through practice yesterday inside the the Razorbacks' indoor facility next door.

It is a cool, overcast day in Fayetteville with a little bit of a north wind. That will be at the back of the hitters, so the ball might carry a little more today.

Arkansas is starting freshman Bryce Bonnin, who is 1-0 this season with no earned runs allowed 6 1/3 innings. He is the Razorbacks' fourth Sunday starter in as many weeks.
