Memphis RB Eric Gray feels good about Arkansas

Eric Gray

— Arkansas had six recruits in this week for unofficial visits and it seems all left impressed.

The list included five 2019 prospects: Memphis, Tenn., Lausanne tailback Eric "Juice" Gray (5-10, 185 pounds); Sardis, Miss., North Panola quarterback Kenneth Jefferson (6-3, 215); Arlington, Texas, Bowie free safety Ty DeArman (5-11, 185); Katy, Texas, offensive lineman Cole Birmingham (6-4, 295); and Houston Clear Lake athlete Shae Suiaunoa (6-2, 185) , who finished up his visit on Thursday.

Gray is up to more than 20 offers and got his latest one from Florida on Wednesday. He was inspired by what he saw at Arkansas in his second unofficial visit to Fayetteville in as many months to check out new coach Chad Morris' program.

"I just love the vision that Coach Morris has from the new stadium to how he wants vibrant colors in the meeting room and stuff like that," Gray said. "He has a great vision of wants the program to be, is a great family guy and he wants everything to be about the players and getting them better and not about him. I just love that about him."

Gray got a good chance to see what all Arkansas had to offer in his three days on campus. The Razorbacks have offered him a scholarship.

"It was a good experience down there getting to spend more than just the one day you usually visit a school," Gray said. "I got the advantage of spending two or three days and it just really gave me a feel of going down there and becoming one of the guys. I got to look over everything. He gave me a really good feel for what is one of my top schools."

Others to offer Gray are Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, South Carolina and Vanderbilt and other schools such as Michigan, Louisville and Georgia Tech that are in the hunt.

"Florida is a big-time school that I have always dreamed of seeing," Gray said. "I got to see it in the eighth grade, but I didn't get to see it much and I haven't been there since. With the Mississippi State staff that I had got close to now at Florida, I'll want to go down there and check it out."

Gray rushed for 3,151 yards and scored 45 touchdowns last season while earning his second Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Award for Class 3A.

His team won its second straight Division 2-AA state title and the Lynx are riding a 27-game winning streak after he rushed for 281 yards on 25 carries in a 41-13 title game win over Notre Dame.

"I am still working on my upper body, getting a bigger upper body so colleges won't think I can't pass protect in run-type zones and things like that," Gray said. "I think my strengths are being able to make people miss and catching the ball out of the backfield and my ability to go the distance and go score touchdowns."

Gray had planned to transfer to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., for his senior season, but has since decided against it.

"My mom had surgery and I decided that I wanted to be around my senior season so I am staying home," Gray said.

He doesn't plan to wait too long before making a decision on where to play.

"I don't want to have that going on in my head when I head into my senior season so I will probably commit in June or July," Gray said. "I will probably cut my list down in April and go from there."

In addition to the 2019 prospects, Arkansas also had a visit on Wednesday from 2020 offensive Chad Linberg (6-6, 305) of League City, Texas, Clear Creek. The Razorbacks have had more than 200 unofficial visitors this year.
