Texas prep QB Suiaunoa sees a fit with Razorbacks

Shae Suiaunoa

— Shae Suiaunoa lives in Texas, his dad coaches in California, but he just might play his college football in Arkansas.

Suiaunoa (6-2, 185, 4.4), a quarterback from Houston, Texas, Clear Lake who is a three-star prospect according to ESPN, took a three-day visit to check out the Razorbacks this week.

“It was a great visit and I really enjoyed everything that I saw with the coaches and players,” Suiaunoa said. “It is a place that I can definitely see myself at.”

Suiaunoa, whose dad Tua is the coach of the three-time Lingerie League Los Angeles Tempations, has decided not to be an early graduate, but plans to make his decision before the end of the year.

“I think probably December that I will have my choice made,” Suiaunoa said. “I thought about being an early graduate, but decided not to be.”

Suiaunoa has offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Cincinnati, Tulane, Missouri, Kansas State, Indiana, Oregon State, Utah, Hawaii, Texas State, Tulane and UTEP among others.

“It’s going to be tough to beat what I saw at Arkansas,” Suiaunoa said. “Just very impressive.”

Suiaunoa passed for 2,274 yards, 23 touchdowns with 13 interceptions while rushing for 801 yards and eight more scores.

He led Clear Lake to an 8-4 record and to the second round of the Class 6A Division II bracket, the second-largest of Texas' 10 playoff divisions.

“I think I am a real good quarterback and one of my strengths is that I can both pass and run,” Suiaunoa said. “If things break down, I can still make a play and get positive yardage, get a few yards and a first down. I think that is what they are looking for.

“Right now I am just working on my consistency, making sure I don’t have negative plays.

While Suiaunoa is considered an athlete on many recruiting services, Arkansas has an idea of where it wants him to play.

“They are recruiting me as a quarterback and that is what most schools are recruiting me as,” Suiaunoa said. “I just really like their vision.”
